It is normally given in childhood at age 12 months and at 4-6 years.

You may need a booster dose of the MMR vaccine if you are part of the following categories:

  • Born on or after January 1, 1970, without:
  • Laboratory evidence of measles, mumps, rubella immunity or clinical diagnosis
  • Documentation of 2 doses of MMR vaccine given at 12 months of age and older, and at least 4 weeks apart
  • Born on or after January 1, 1990, have not completed your routine vaccination, and do not have record of 2 doses of the MMR vaccine

Persons with birth date before January 1, 1970 are considered immune.

The MMR vaccine is a publicly funded vaccine for all persons meeting these criteria, so you don’t need to pay to receive this booster.

* Please note that the MMR vaccine is a live vaccination and should not be given to people who are pregnant, have medical conditions that compromise their immune system (cancer, HIV, multiple sclerosis, etc.), or take medications that cause immunosuppression.
